Statement from Committee

Following a complaint received from a committee member regarding how he felt he was treated at the pub, along with numerous comments about the decision not to pay prize money to teams that did not purchase tickets for the Presentation Evening, we feel it is important to explain the committee’s decision.

Firstly, the rule has always been the same throughout the league: if a team does not purchase tickets for the Presentation Evening, they do not collect their prize money. This has been the case for many years, so we do not believe it is fair or appropriate to change the rule simply because the event was cancelled.

Every team had ample opportunity to purchase tickets. The original deadline was the AGM on 20th May 2026, when final numbers were required. Despite this, the committee extended the deadline by a further two weeks in an effort to make the evening viable. Unfortunately, there were still insufficient ticket sales, leaving us with no option but to cancel the event.

The committee’s view is simple: if a team chose not to purchase tickets, they were indicating that they were not attending the Presentation Evening. Under the league’s long-standing rules, those teams would not receive their prize money. Teams that did purchase tickets had followed the rules and committed to attending, so it is only fair that they receive their prize money.

We appreciate that not everyone will agree with this decision, but we genuinely ask those who disagree to consider why it is unfair to apply a rule that has always existed. The Presentation Evening was cancelled because there was not enough support through ticket sales. This was not a decision the committee wanted to make, but it became unavoidable.

We have also seen comments regarding the venue. As a committee, we have repeatedly asked for suggestions and constructive feedback. With 270 players and only 6 or 7 committee members, it is impossible to please everyone. We are always happy to listen to ideas, but we ask that concerns are raised directly with the committee rather than discussed behind our backs or on social media. If you have a suggestion or a concern, please come and speak to us—we would much rather have an open conversation than hear complaints second-hand.

In addition, every team was asked to provide up-to-date bank details for prize payments, regardless of whether they had been supplied previously, as account details can change. Apart from the small number of teams who have done so, we are still waiting for the majority of responses. Prize money cannot be paid until the correct bank details have been received. It is not the committee’s responsibility to continually chase teams for information that has already been requested.

Finally, we would like everyone to remember that the committee members are volunteers. We give up our own time to organise and run this league because we want everyone to have the opportunity to play skittles. Recent events and the way some committee members have been spoken to have been extremely disappointing. If this continues, there is a genuine risk that people will no longer be willing to volunteer, and without a committee there simply will not be a league.

All we ask is that teams support the league, respond to requests when they are made, and communicate with the committee respectfully and constructively. We all want the same thing—a successful league that everyone can enjoy.
